A 25-year-old Phoenix woman fell to her death at Workman Creek Falls about 10 miles south of Young Sunday, according to the Gila County Sheriff's Office.
GCSO Det. Jerry Valenzuela said Chungsook Chang was sitting at the edge of the 170-foot waterfall when she was swept over the edge.
"She got too close to the edge," Valenzuela said. "She was slipping on some of the moss that was in the creek water. She tried to sit down and when she sat down the water just took her over the top."
According to the sheriff's office, Chang was camping with family and friends near Workman Creek, off Forest Road 288.
Globe and Canyon Fire Department rope rescue teams responded to the rugged area and retrieved Chang's body, Valenzuela said.
"She died of massive body injuries," he said.
Valenzuela said visitors to the area need to use caution.
"People come up from the Valley and think this is a very safe place, and it's not," Valenzuela said. "It will kill you in a New York second if you don't use caution and stay away from the edges of cliffs."
