Joyce Karnes played her way to the A flight championship of the Payson Women's Golf Association low-net tournament July 27 at Payson Golf Course. Karnes finished at 73.
In flight B, Jan Burns carded a 71 to edge runner-up Alesha Calderwood (72) by a single stroke.
In addition to winning flight honors, Burns pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on No. 8 for a tee shot that rolled to within 41 feet of the flag.
In flight C, Glenda Cook posted a 71 to outdistance silver medalist Sue Stockton and third-place finisher Dorothy Meek.
Stockton posted a 74 and Meek had an 80.
Ethel Hull took Flight D honors with a 73. Joyce Goff finished second two strokes behind the flight champion.
Although Laura Meyocks wasn't among the flight leaders as she is in most PWGA tournaments, she did manage to take closest-to-the-pin laurels on No. 14 with a lie of 5 feet, 9 inches.
The tournament was played without one of the PWGA's longtime veterans, Marge Landra, who had surgery recently and will be off the links for a short time.
