Tonto Village is gearing up for the last big celebration of summer with the organizing of the Labor Day Bash by the Tonto Village Fire Sirens Auxiliary.
So many activities are going to take place such as the "Kids 'n' Critters" parade, the decorating of the quads for the parade, the silent auction, the pie-throwing contest at the fire chiefs, the great barbeque dinner, the cake walk, the raffle items, and so much more that there have to be meetings held every Saturday at the Tonto Village Chapel starting at 10 a.m.
There is more than enough for everyone to help out in some way, either with the set-up or the cleaning afterward, so come by on Saturday.
In the meantime, the auxiliary will be holding a bake sale along with Christopher Creek Firebelles Friday, Aug 20 at the Firebelle fire station in Christopher Creek. This event will help finance some of the events for Labor Day.
All bake items are to be at the station no later than 10 a.m. or call Carol Fulp at (928) 478-4839. The bake sale coincides with the big scrimmage game that will be held at Camp Tontozona with the ASU Sun Devils football team. Please help support both fire departments and contribute some bake goods or if that isn't possible, come by and buy something.
Birthdays, Anniversaries, etc.
Glen and Audrey Shaw of Tonto Village III, will celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary Aug. 17. What a milestone. Congratulations to you, Glen and Audrey.
Tonto Village Fire District
The monthly fire board meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. Training of various apparatus will be held after the board meeting. All volunteer firefighters are urged to participate in this important training.
Don't forget that the Ladies dominoes group still meets at 1 p.m. every Wednesday at the Tonto Village Chapel. The response so far has been very successful. There have been so many gals who want to play that there are now two tables playing. If you haven't checked us out yet, drop by.
One of the gals, Nancy Yocum from Thompson Draw II, has started a craft day on Thursdays. If you have any idea for a neat craft to make, give her a call at (928) 478-4370.
Sunday afternoon, Danny Whitmore, the woodcutter from the Valley took first place, Betty Koutz shot for second place and Phyllis Mullen shot for third.
Ladies night on Tuesday evening took place at the Double D and a couple of the gals who work the road crew putting in the bridge shot for first and third places. We didn't get last names, but Teresa took first place, Ethel Cain, second, and Annie from the road crew, third. Annie and Teresa are staying in Christopher Creek until about January. Welcome to Tonto Village gals, even if it is just for a short time.
