Rotarians Honor Local Teachers


Five Teacher Education Grant Awards valued at $500 each were doled out by the Payson Rotary Club at its annual Teachers and Staff recognition dinner Aug. 11 at Rumsey Park.


Among those at the Rotary Club-sponsored teacher appreciation dinner Aug. 11 at Rumsey Park were Kathleen Crane, Julie Eckhardt, Barbara Harrison, Celeste Parsons and Nicole McCorgary. Also, (front row) Anna Van Zile and Petrina Gunzel. Parsons and McCorgary represented the Rotary Club while Crane, Eckhardt, Harrison, Van Zile and Gunzel received grants from the service club.

The recipients included Kathleen Crane, Barbara Harrison, Anna Van Zile, Julie Eckhardt and Petrina Gunzel.

Crane, a speech pathologist at Payson Elementary School, will use the money to purchase articulation and language remediation tools.

Harrison, who teaches English at PHS, plans to use the money to buy contemporary young adult books.

Also at PHS, Van Zile is buying reference books and student publishing tools.

At Julia Randall, Eckhardt -- the librarian -- is purchasing listening center equipment.

Gunzel will buy reading and writing kits for Julia Randall Elementary School.

Members of the Payson Rotary Club thanked the festivities major sponsors including Dan Dillion of Safeway, Steve Perry from Pepsi and First American Title. Safeway donated the food and utensils, Pepsi furnished the drinks and First American Title the bottled water.
