Q: What's happening with the proposal to bring water from the Blue Ridge Reservoir to Payson? What is the plan for delivery? Pump it down the East Verde and pipe it out close to town or build a whole new pipeline from the reservoir?

A: Congressman Rick Renzi is working with Phelps Dodge and Salt River Project, along with the town of Payson to facilitate to negotiations needed to make the water available. Public Works Director Buzz Walker said the town plans to build a 14-mile pipeline from the reservoir's pipe in Washington Park to Payson. "The plan would be to hook onto the existing pipeline at the base of the Rim in Washington Park at the generating station and then construct an approximately 14-mile pipeline to Payson. It would be constructed in the existing right-of-way. We anticipate starting on that process pretty quick to define the pipeline route."
