Firebelles Have A Sellout

The Firebelles raised more than $275 for the emergency medical service fund at last week's bake sale. They had a sellout.

The Firebelles want to thank George Ahlmann and Chief Ray Larsen for putting out the big signs and picking them up when the sale was over. Another big thanks to all the great bakers who contributed goods and for all those who showed up to buy.

Christopher/Kohls Fire District Firebelles, from left, Vicki Grootegoed, Jean Clarkson, Rita Quay, Mary Wenning, Sandy Kalmar, Marty Schantz, Eillen Kittock and Penny Wells enjoyed a very successful bake sale last week, raising $275 for the EMS fund.

Don't forget the Labor Day Bash in conjunction with the Tonto Village Fire Sirens Auxiliary. The Christopher/Kohls Firebelles will be having a silent auction and there will be a lot of really nice things. Fun starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Tonto Village Chapel parking lot. A barbecue plate will sell for $5. Hot dogs and soft drinks will only be $1. There will be a raffle with many prizes and the drawing will be at 4 p.m.

A "Sweeten the Chiefs" game will be offered -- contestants get to throw whipped cream at the fire chiefs at 3 p.m.

If you can help out in any way, or have something to donate, call Sandy Kalmar at (928) 478-4774.

I cannot believe that summer is almost over. Pretty soon the elk will be bugling and the leaves will be changing. Fall is in the air. I actually turned my fireplace on the other day. Those of you who have wood-burning stoves, please have them checked before you burn.

Everyone is gearing up for this year's Flatlander Party. It is on Sept. 14 and it will be the 25th anniversary. Where in the world does time go? Some people still don't know what in the world the word "flatlander" means and the residents of Christopher Creek have been having Flatlander Parties for 24 years now. If you are a flatlander it means you live in the Valley. But, remember we all were flatlanders at one time. The party is an opportunity for residents to wind down and meet with their neighbors and reminisce about the past and the way it used to be.
