A non-injury car accident led to the discovery of 66 grams of methamphetamine and the arrest of a 37-year-old Mesa man, a drug task force detective said.
Gila County Narcotics Task Force Det. Tony McDaniel said Jeffrey Scott Tetrick, 37, of Mesa was arrested Aug. 17 on charges of possession of meth and four grams of marijuana.
McDaniel said Tetrick was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a minor collision just west of the turnoff to Woods Canyon Lake on Highway 260.
Officers investigating the accident called Deputy Dennis Newman, a member of the task force, and his narcotics dog to the scene. The dog alerted the officers to the drugs, which were found in a knapsack, McDaniel said.
"Charges are pending review by the Gila County attorney," McDaniel said. "If you have more than nine grams of (meth), you can be charged (with intent to sell drugs)."
Tetrick is in department of corrections custody.
