Teens Team Up For Apache Gold Prize Money

A love of barrel racing has built a bond between teenagers Amber Marshall and Sami Novak.

Following a Nov. 27 and 28 competition at Apache Gold Casino indoor arena in San Carlos, the two praised one another for their accomplishments.

Amber Marshall and Sami Novak share a passion for horses and barrel racing.

"I want to thank my good friend (Sami) for her motivation before I ran," Marshall said. "It was really fun being there with her."

Novak was equally as appreciative of Marshall's friendship and encouragement.

During the first day of the competition, 14-year-old Marshall took first in the 2D pole bending with a time of 23.92. For her win, she pocketed $50 in prize money.

On the second day, Marshall rode her horse AJ to second in the 4D barrel racing and won $192.

Novak, 15, was first in the 2D barrel racing (16:17) on opening day and was awarded $156. The following day, she won the 4D open barrel racing in 16:92. For the victory, which was chalked up aboard her 21-year-old horse, Tigger, she earned $257.

Novak thanked Danny and Debbie Haught for giving her the horse; and her employer, John Kirschbaum at El Rancho Restaurant for time off work.

Marshall is sponsored by Hashknife Feed and Tack and Unlimited Outfitters.
