Video Store Tussle Ends In Two Arrests

Two men were arrested in front of Blockbuster Video after police were called to break up a fight between the duo last Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The men, Michael J. McNabb, 19, of Pine and Kenneth R. Ronning, 27, of Payson fought over who was in possession of the keys to the truck (in which they'd arrived).

Lt. Don Engler and Officer Allen Dyer had to subdue a suspect following an altercation at a Payson video store.

Payson police officers responded to the call at 2 p.m. and separated the men, but as Officer Allen Dyer questioned McNabb, he became uncooperative, Payson Police Lt. Don Engler said.

"We were in the process of checking the suspects for weapons and Officer Dyer started to conduct a pat down search when he shoved (Dyer) and began to pull away from him," Engler said. "At that point it was necessary to detain him for officer safety. He was resisting us, but was ultimately detained."

Officers found a butterfly knife as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on McNabb.

"He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia," Engler said.

Ronning was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Engler said officers were uninjured during the scuffle and it was McNabb who had the keys to the truck.
