Little League officials, including equipment manager and coach Eddie Duran, are hoping the fiascoes created by late player registrations are things of the past.
"That's always been a problem, almost everyone knows that," Duran said.
In past years when late signups were the norm, Little League volunteers were unable to properly plan for the upcoming season because they didn't know how many players or teams the league could field.
"It's tough on everyone," Duran said.
In an effort to get a jump start on planning the coming season, Little League board members have scheduled five player pre-registration dates that they hope parents will take advantage of.
Those parents who don't, Duran said, run the risk of not having their son on a team and will most certainly be among those who put a hitch in the planning process.
All upcoming registrations will be held at the Payson Bashas' store.
The dates are:
- Jan. 12, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Jan 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Jan. 19, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Jan. 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Jan. 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The registration fee is $60 per player. Families with more than one player participating will receive a discount of $5.
Also, additional volunteers including snack bar attendants, coaches and managers are needed.
According to Duran, if not enough volunteers are found to run the snack bar it could close down for the season.
