Wrestling fans will be treated to a festival of mat action over the course this weekend.
The Rim Country Duals, which begins at 2 p.m. Friday, has drawn 12 of the state's finest prep wrestling teams to Wilson Dome.
In the field are Apache Junction, Bradshaw Mountain, Ironwood, Kingman, North Phoenix, Phoenix Christian, San Manuel, Tucson Pusch Ridge, Skyline, Valley Christian, Willow Canyon and Payson.
Friday, mat action continues until about 9 p.m. It resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. Tournament director Don Heizer anticipates the tournament will wrap up about 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the crowning of individual weight-class champions.
During Friday afternoon's and Saturday morning's competition, the teams will battle one another in a dual meet format of two pools.
From that competition, an overall team champion will be crowned.
Saturday afternoon, the top two individual wrestlers from each pool will meet in a mini-tournament.
From those wrestlers, individual meet champions will be named. During the course of the tournament, action will be almost non-stop on four mats. Admission is free.
"We want people to come out and enjoy a great weekend of wrestling," Heizer said.
