Top honors in Payson's 2004 Main Street/APS Electric Light Parade went to the float entered by the Energy West company. The judges awarded the float, showcasing reindeer, lights and presents, 154 points.

Energy West won top honors among the entries in the 2004 Main Street/APS Electric Light Parade Dec. 4.

Entries more than doubled from last year from 27 to 57 total entries.

Floats were judged on originality, quality, theme and overall appeal.

Energy West received 154 points for its entry; Mazatzal Casino earned 149 points and second place honors; and R & R Pizza received 147 points and third place.

Even though the "weather outside was frightful," the parade was still delightful, said coordinator Carol McCauley, Main Street project manager. In the snow -- and sometimes rain -- 54 of the 57 entries were able to participate.

Judge Ronnie McDaniel served as the parade's grand marshal; announcers were Randy Roberson, Dan Haapala, Fred Carpenter and Eddie Armer.

Even inclement weather couldn't keep an estimated 1500 to 2000 parade spectators away.

Fireworks were set off from Green Valley Park afterward. The are plans to have the fireworks again next year.
