Three Valley men were arrested last week after police were tipped off by a Payson resident who witnessed two of the men throwing items in a dumpster behind a restaurant, police said.
The men, a 17-year-old male from Phoenix; Klayton Sayer, 20, Phoenix; and Stephen Brumfield, 42, Avondale were seen disposing of items near a restaurant on Highway 260." It was stolen property out of the Phoenix area," Payson Police Lt. Don Engler said.
Officers caught up with two of the men in the Bashas' parking lot and found another attempting to use a stolen credit card at a local motel. The items recovered from the dumpster included tools and identification linking the two men and one juvenile to a Phoenix burglary case.
"We are working with the Phoenix Police Department on the case," Engler said. "Right now, it looks like they were traveling together and came up here to get rid of some stolen property."
The juvenile was charged with trafficking stolen property; possession of stolen property; fraudulent use of a credit card; providing false information to police officers; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sayer was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, and Brumfield was charged with giving false information to police officers and possession of fireworks.
Sayer and Brumfield were booked into the Gila County Jail. The juvenile was released to a third party. Engler said the case is still under investigation and all three could face additional charges in Maricopa County.
