Don't Let Road Work Be A Barrier To A Good Time

Plan on making Kohl's Ranch a destination for a winter outing soon. In spite of the on-going road work in the area, the lodge and restaurant are still open.

New general manager Michael LaCoy invites Rim residents to come out and enjoy a holiday meal from new chef and food and beverage manager Matthew Hubbard.

There is still time to make a reservation for Christmas Day buffet, which will feature salads, soups, several side dishes and accompaniments, and a choice of entrees: chicken Monterey, slow roasted certified Angus prime rib of maple glazed baked ham, plus desserts. The buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Or schedule a weekend away for New Year's Eve. Hubbard is planning a four course meal for New Year's Eve, accompanied by a complimentary glass of J. Roget Champagne. The menu will include the appetizers vegetable fries or quiche Lorraine, Creekside clam chowder or baby field greens salad with raspberry vinaigrette, a choice of entrees: Sierra stuffed pork loin, pan-seared rainbow trout, Kohl's chicken Parmesan or beef Wellington, and the desserts of either baklava or pralinette. The cost is $49.95 per couple.

Following the evening's dinner, which will be served from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., there will be music and party favors. Rooms are still available for rent. The lodge has 40 rooms, plus 25 creek-side cabins.

"Dining at Kohl's Ranch features rustic elegance with a cowboy flair," said Hubbard, who graduated as salutatorian of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute.

He and LaCoy just introduced a new menu at the lodge's restaurant last week. The dining room is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The saloon is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a full bar menu Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to the different dining opportunities at Kohl's Ranch, the lodge has a sauna, heated pool and hot tub, horseback riding and an assortment of sports activities.

"We do banquets, weddings, anniversaries, family reunions," said LaCoy. "We can handle any type of group function with up to 60 people."

LaCoy came on board at Kohl's Ranch in early September. Hubbard joined the staff in early August.
