King Arthur's High Country Transportation and Limousine Services can take clients anywhere in the state they want to go. And owner E. Alan Brimage promises, "Excellence in transportation."

Established in Arizona in 1997, the company provides airport shuttles, private airport sedans, wedding and special occasion transportation, tours, courier service and conveyance for shopping trips, doctor appointments, conventions, corporate functions and more.

Around-the-clock pick ups and deliveries anywhere in the state are available from King Arthur's High Country Transportation and Limousine Services. The drivers in the Rim country include, from left, area supervisor Mark Hoke, Jennifer Hoke and Jerry Novak. The company has a sedan and van stationed in the community, but limousines, mini buses and motor coaches are also available.

King Arthur's vehicles all carry formal permits for serving Sky Harbor Airport, making it possible for drivers to either drop and meet clients at the curb, or assist them in and out of the terminals with luggage, Brimage said.

The Payson operation is one of three King Arthur branches; there is another branch in Wickenburg, with the home base in Fountain Hills.

The Payson branch is managed by Mark Hoke, who does some of the driving, along with his wife, Jennifer and Jerry Novak. Brimage owns and operates the company with his daughter, Elaine Brimage. There are seven other employees providing services.

Originally from Boston, the Brimages moved to Littleton, Colo., in the mid-1980s, and started a limousine service in Denver. The company operated in the Denver area from 1986 to 1995, eventually employing 22 people and operating six vehicles. Family health concerns forced the move to Arizona.

"We came here planning to expand the business from Denver to Phoenix," Brimage said.

That didn't work out, though and eventually, between problems with the general manager they had left in charge in Denver and the Internal Revenue Service, the family lost everything.

Brimage then met the man who ran Fountain Hills Taxi, another Massachusetts native who was interested in selling his business.

The two couples agreed to a five-year plan, and for Christmas 1996, Brimage had his town car licensed for transporting clients and helped Fountain Hills Taxi service take care of its holiday business.

"We took over management and ownership in January 1997," Brimage said.

His business was limousine service, he said, not a regular taxi business. He said it took the clients a little while to adjust to having a sedan come to their door when they called the taxi, but it has since been very well received in Fountain Hills and its surrounding communities.

Brimage bought Payson's High Country Transportation in June.

"It's likely we will expand the Payson business with the services of our limousines and mini buses," Brimage said.

There also is a move to specialize in tours and charters, something the company already has experience in, taking groups to New Mexico, Nevada, California and Colorado.

King Arthur's services are available around the clock with reservations. The fleet includes a full line of luxury vehicles, from executive sedans to stretch limousines, 15-passenger vans, 25-passenger mini-buses and 55-passenger motor coaches.

"The emphasis of the new management is very stringent," Brimage said. "We're all about attitude; second, image and integrity; and third, professionalism."
