Edna M. Todd Giese, 88, died Jan. 16, 2004 in Payson. She was born April 11, 1915 in Mankato, Minn.
Upon graduation from Good Council Academy, she married her high school sweetheart, Julian "Toots" Giese, also from Mankato.
Following the war, Edna and Julian moved to Baraboo, Wis. with their two children, Bob and Sharon.
In 1947, they moved to Rockford, Ill. where Julian was employed by the Rockford Morning Star/Rockford Register Republic Newspaper. Edna lived in Rockford until she moved to Payson in 1999 to be closer to her family.
Mrs. Giese worked for the Amerock Corp. of Rockford as a chemical analyst for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Her love of life and caring for the welfare of others was evidenced by her untiring work for the Literacy Council. She served as senior teacher and later as secretary-treasurer of the Rockford Literacy Council from 1964 to 1999.
She is survived by two brothers, Warren Todd of Mankato, Minn. and Bud Todd of Waverly, Iowa; son, Robert (Roberta) Giese of Hampton, N.H.; grandson, Rob (Erin) Giese of Grafton, Mass.; granddaughter, Carrie Giese of Hampton, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Jack Giese of Grafton, Mass.; daughter, Sharon Risser and son-in-law, Christian F. Risser, M.D., of Payson and Scottsdale; grandchildren, Christian (Cynthia) Risser of Scottsdale, Heidi Risser of Scottsdale, Hans Risser of Skopje, Macedonia and Eric Risser (Lori) of Phoenix; great-grandchildren Christian and Ethan Risser, Isabella and Annabella Risser, all of Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 511 S. St. Phillips St. in Payson. Lunch will follow.
Interment will be in Rockford, Ill. later this spring.
