Q: What is the cost of replacing the town's landscaped areas with artificial turf? Is it really cheaper than leaving them natural?
A: Buzz Walker, director of public works for the town, said not all the town's landscaped areas will be replaced with artificial turf, it is only going on the spot at the front of the town hall complex.
"If we were to put it on all the town fields, and those at the high school, we estimated it would cost about $2 million," Walker said.
The spot in front of town hall is just a demonstration area to show there are alternatives to grass. Walker said the average cost for consumers to use the artificial turf ranges from $8 to $15 per square foot, with the difference in cost being the amount of installation -- such as restructuring the plot with removing or adding dirt -- that is required.
