Pine Resident Announces Candidacy For Gila County School Superintendent

I wish to announce that I am a candidate for the position of Gila County School Superintendent in the 2004 fall elections. The school superintendent's office handles fiscal activities and a variety of other functions for schools throughout the county as mandated by state statutes. Additional services and resources offered by the county school office reflect school and district needs.

My educational background includes degrees from all three of Arizona's major universities. I earned my bachelor's degree in education from A.S.U., my master's degree in reading from the U of A, and my doctorate degree in education administration from NAU. My work experience includes serving as the administrator for small and rural schools for the Mariposa County School Superintendent's Office. While employed with the Arizona Department of Education, I served as the state director of the career ladder and charter school programs. Earlier in my career, I taught grades one, three, five, and seven in Mesa, Nogales, and Gilbert. I have also worked as a reading specialist while in Nogales. I am currently teaching at Gila Community College in Payson.

I am an avid quilter, and this year's chair of the Strawberry Patchers, a chapter of the Arizona Quilter's Guild. I was secretary of my local homeowners' association for three years. I also belong to a number of professional organizations. My husband and campaign manager, Ken, is a registered architect, who now operates a small architectural business from Pine.

I am currently seeking signatures of registered voters in support of my nomination. I am available to speak to local groups about my qualifications, as well as the role and responsibilities of the county school superintendent. Please call (928) 476-5286 for further information.
