Amber Marshall is developing into one of the Rim country's most promising young barrel racers.
Her most recent accomplishments were chalked up Feb. 7 and 8 during an America West Association competition at the Apache Gold indoor arena in San Carlos.
During the first day's events, the Rim Country Middle school eighth-grader rode her way to a gold-medal youth division finish. The following day, Marshall earned second place in the youth division and third in the youth novice competition.
Marshall rode her 9-year-old horse, A.J., during the two-day competition. She received $209 in prize money, a Gist-brand championship buckle and a hand-tooled head stall.
In addition to her showings on the America West Association circuit, Marshall was an age group champion in the Payson Parks and Recreation-sponsored barrel racing series last summer.

"I want to thank them for all they do for me," she said.
