Mildred Burtcher, 91, died Feb. 16, 2004. She was born Oct. 12, 1912 in Pawnee, Okla. to Estalla Drake and James Ingram.
She was adopted by Anna and Jasper Gale of the Virden Valley, N.M., both of whom passed away within seven years of her adoption.
She was raised by various members of the Gale family in the Morenci, Duncan and Safford areas.
She married Perry B. Burtcher on Aug. 29, 1929. They had two children, Margaret and Robert (deceased).
Mrs. Burtcher was exceptionally talented in the arts and organized the first Payson art show and had several shows of her own.
She was a large contributor in the work of the painting of the Phoenix Bird at the Phoenix International Airport.
Mrs. Burtcher also operated a gift shop in Scottsdale, among many other projects she entertained during her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret McClure (Harold); daughter-in-law, Anne Bowen Burtcher; six grandchildren and their families, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 214 at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale.
