All-region honors continue to flow for members of the Payson High School winter sports teams.
The most recent athletes to earn Grand Canyon honors are Lady Longhorn soccer players Amy Wilcox, Brenna Zumbro and Jessica Coleman.
In a voting of coaches at season's end, Wilcox and Zumbro were named to the all-region first team. Coleman was named honorable mention. In the voting, the coaches selected 11 players to the first team and 11 as honorable mention.
Wilcox, a senior, played the striker position for the Lady Horns and was the team's leading scorer and captain.
"She had a nose for the goal," coach Randy Wilcox, also her father, said.
Wilcox hopes to continue her career next season on the collegiate level.
Zumbro, also a senior, played goalie for the Lady Horns and developed the reputation as one of the hardest defenders in the region.
"She was very aggressive and athletic," coach Wilcox said. Zumbro also excels in softball as a pitcher and expects to play college ball next school year.
As a junior, Coleman will return to the Lady Horn fold to provide much-needed leadership and experience. Last season, she held down the right forward position and was known for her work ethic.
"She's a real strong kid who wasn't afraid to challenge offensively or defensively," coach Wilcox said.
The naming of the trio to the all-region team comes on the heels of boys' basketball coaches selecting Mike Barr, Kyle Hubbard and Donnie Wilbanks for post-season Grand Canyon honors.
More laurels could be coming Payson's way this evening (Friday) when the Lady Longhorn basketball team holds its season-ending awards ceremony.
At the event, coach Rory Huff is expected to announce the players chosen to the all-region girls' basketball squad.
