(Congressman Renzi sent this reply to Tina Terry regarding Social Security for foreigners.)
Dear Mrs. Terry:
Thank you for contacting me about the future of Social Security. I appreciate learning your views.
As you may already know, Congressman Ron Paul introduced legislation to address the concerns surrounding illegal immigrants receiving Social Security funds. H.R. 489, the Social Security for Americans Only Act of 2003, amends Title II of the Social Security Act and the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that wages earned and self-employment income derived by individuals who are not citizens or nationals of the United States shall not receive coverage.
The possible future insolvency of Social Security is a serious problem and I will keep H.R. 489 in mind as we move forward with Social Security reform. I will work with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to bring about legislation that assists in strengthening the Social Security program for future generations without hurting the senior citizens of rural Arizona.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to do so again about any issue of importance to you.
Rick Renzi, United States Congressman, First District of Arizona
