Tom A. Baxter, 84, of Payson, died Jan. 21, 2004. He was a native of Arizona, born Dec. 17, 1919 in Mesa.
Mr. Baxter lived most of his early life at Little Green Valley Ranch. He worked for Gila County operating a road grader on outlying roads. He retired Jan. 4, 1984. He loved to tell about the early days when "Pappy" Haught played the fiddle and he played the piano at Kohl's Ranch.
Mr. Baxter was a life member of the Payson Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Bee Baxter of Payson; stepson, Larry (Claudia) Green of Happy Jack; stepdaughter Cheryl (Kenneth) Adams of Austin, Texas; sister, Marty McDaniel of Payson; niece, Marsha (Terry) Hughes; nephew, Tony (Tiffany) McDaniel; nephew, Greg Williams; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Baxter and his mother, Million (Haught) Baxter.
There will be a service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Pioneer Cemetery, with burial following.
