Payson police have arrested four people in connection with a home invasion and assault that occurred over the weekend at a Frontier Street apartment complex.
"Sunday morning, at approximately 4 a.m., several subjects went to an apartment at 300 West Frontier," Payson Police Sgt. Rod Mamero said. "They knocked on the door of an apartment and a female came to the door. She was pulled outside and held against her will while several other subjects went into the apartment. They then assaulted a man who was asleep in his bed numerous times with blunt instruments."
Mamero said this was not a random crime.
"They were looking for a specific individual," Mamero said "There is a prior history between some of the parties, but the motive behind the incident is still in question."
The victim was taken to Payson Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
With information from the victims and witnesses, officers were able to identify the alleged suspects in the assault.
"We were able to develop leads as to where the suspects might be and what vehicle they were driving," Mamero said.
The suspects' vehicle was stopped later that afternoon on the Tonto Apache reservation.
"Three subjects were taken into custody at that time," Mamero said. "And a fourth subject was taken into custody at 3:41 p.m. at a residence in town."
Mamero said two of the four suspects are juveniles.
The names of the adult suspects have not yet been released.
"They were charged with aggravated assault, burglary, kidnapping and felony criminal damage," Mamero said. "We are continuing to investigate the incident."
