Q: Is the landscaping project on Main Street at Julia Randall Elementary School being paid for by money from school budget override approved by voters in May? If not, who is paying for it?
A: The little island between the JRE playground fence and Main Street, which includes a walkway, artificial turf and rockscape is not being funded by the school district in any way. The project is one of several instituted by the citizens' group, Payson Schools Beautification Committee. "It is being paid for with private donations and money from lots of fund-raisers. For instance, at Macky's Grill we had a Tips of Teachers campaign," said Cari Day, who chairs the committee, and owns Macky's Grill with her husband, Greg. She said much of the material being used in the small beautification project is being donated by area businesses.
