- As we left Payson for a retirement in Prescott, many, including the Roundup staff, made me promise to stand up to Payson's bidor “the oldest rodeo.”Prescott, of course, contends it had the “world's oldest rodeo” and Payson knows it has the “world's oldest continuous rodeo.”

- Christopher/Kohl's Firebelles have quilts to raffle off. Some of these ladies have been very busy. Margie Larsen made and donated the quilt named “There are bears in Christopher Creek.” The machine quilting was done and donated by Sandy Strunk of Tempe. It is a twin size quilt.

- A fire that destroyed a house and carport tore through Bear Flat at the third meadow July 3. With the help of Diamond Star Fire Department, the Tonto Village Fire Department and the Hot Shots from the Forest Service, the flames were kept under control and damage was limited to one house and carport with a small amount of brush.
