Christopher/Kohl's Firebelles have quilts to raffle off. Some of these ladies have been very busy. Margie Larsen made and donated the quilt named "There are bears in Christopher Creek." The machine quilting was done and donated by Sandy Strunk of Tempe. It is a twin size quilt.
The money from the quilt will go to the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department EMS Scholarship fund. Margie has tickets and you can reach her at (928) 478-4869, or you can call any Firebelle or the station at (928) 478-4011. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.
The Bow Tie Quilt was donated by Firebelle Pat Oliver. Pat won this at a raffle back in 1989 and she decided to donate it back to the Firebelles to raffle off. Some of the firebelles who worked on this quilt were Doris Berg, Mimi Tidwell, Marge Matus, Evelyn Bowman, Francis Reynolds and Louise Reynolds. Raffle tickets for the bow tie quilt are $2 each or three for $5. You can call Pat at (928) 478-4210.
From 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 10, there will be a seminar at the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department. With the threats from the Willow Fire looming, every homeowner needs to be prepared.
Before another fire passes near our community, we need to do what we can to limit the probability of home ignition.
Someone from the University of Arizona presents Defensible Landscaping Techniques, Home Assessment Strategies, Finding and Writing Grants and What to Expect During an Evacuation. This is a free seminar. An optional packet will be available for $5.
The Red Cross also will be on hand to talk about how we would get in or out if there ever were an evacuation.
Winners of the Ladies Nine-Ball tournament are Bo Matthews (first place), Laura Fife (second place) and Michelle Grundy (third place). Congratulations, ladies.
Every Saturday at 7 p.m. bingo at the fire station.
Don't forget the forest is closed and the fines are very steep. If you are out there, you will get caught. If you park and leave your vehicle, they will pull your plates and you will have to walk, if you hide your plates they will tow you.
