Women Golfers Short Of Clubs

In a "three clubs and a putter" formatted tournament June 29 at Payson Golf Course, members of Payson Women's Golf Association often found themselves a tad short of links hardware.

"We always had the wrong clubs," PWGA member Alesha Calderwood said.

Flight A co-champs Laura Meyocks and Mary Cain were among the players battling with just four clubs. The two tied for the title with identical cards of 72.

In flight B, Judy Neal finished with a winning tally of 65 that received a big boost from her closest-to-the-pin shot on No. 5. It rolled to within 26 feet, 6 inches of the pin. With a 75, Mary Jones was second in the flight.

Kay Davis and Dorothy Meek tied for first place in flight C with tallies of 75.

In flight D, Ethel Hull emerged the winner with a 71.

Joyce Karnes got into the championship act pocketing closest-to-the-pin prize money on No. 17. Her shot came within 20 feet, 3 inches of an ace.
