Men, Women Face Off In Jack-And-Jill Match


The Payson Women's Golf Association hosted members of the men's association in its annual Jack-and-Jill Tournament.

The fray, played in a "partner best ball" format was July 20 at Payson Golf Course.

Mary Jones and Benny Burns carded a 57 to take first place over the runner-up team of Joyce Karnes and John Calderwood who finished at 59.

The battle for bronze medal ended in a tie involving Glenda Cook and Jack Greenshield and Kay Davis and Troy Neal. Both duos scored tallies of 60.

In addition to Greenshield's tie for third, he was hot on the par 3 holes recording a pair of closest-to-the-pin victories.

On No. 8, his tee shot rolled to within 6 feet, 4 inches of the flag. On No. 17, he came within 17 feet, 6 1/2 inches of the hole.

Among the PWGA members, Jan Burns was closest on No. 5 and Joyce Karnes pocketed prize money on No. 14. On both holes, the members swatted to within 8 feet, 2 inches of an ace.
