Maggie Etta Hunt Powers, 98, died May 25, 2004. She was born Jan. 11, 1906 in Dallas, Texas. She came to the Rim country in 1914 at the age of 9.
Mrs. Powers' mother was Effie Anderton Hunt. Her husband died and she was alone to raise seven children. Her brother, Jase Anderton, told her if she would come to Arizona he would help her with her children.
She married George Haught and had one baby boy. They both died within one year of each other. She then married George Wesley Powers who preceded her in death March 18, 1972. They had two daughters: Annie Louise Powers Martin, who preceded her in death, and Myrtle Irene Powers Martin, who resides in Gilbert.
She had four brothers: Bufford Hunt, Ray Hunt, Ted Hunt, Leonard Hubbard, and one sister, Flora Haught who preceded her in death.
She has one sister, Elizabeth Steele, who survives her and resides in Tucson.
Mrs. Powers is also survived by one daughter, five grandchildren, and two sons-in-law: Archie Martin in Gilbert and Harold Martin in Cottonwood; 13 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5 at Payson Pioneer Cemetery.
