Team, Friends Remember Gracie

A memorial tree and a plaque honoring Gracie Lee Haught now stands at Lady Longhorn softball field.

A plaque near the plumb tree at the Lady Longhorn diamond was donated by Action Trophy.

The flowering plumb tree, which will sprout pink flowers in the spring, was planted March 31 and the plaque added days later.

Gracie Lee, who was 3 years old, died in Feb. 6, 2004 in a tragic accident in Star Valley.

Gracie's mother, Bobbie Jo Haught, was a Lady Longhorn junior varsity coach and a member of the Hot Ice women's slow-pitch softball team.

The members of Hot Ice purchased and planted the memorial tree.

"Between high school girls softball and our (Hot Ice) team, it's a way of telling Bobbie Joe and Hooter we love them," Hot Ice team member Charlene Hunt said.

"Gracie was at many of our practices and games. She was a part of our lives too."

Some of the donations to purchase the tree came from Payson Athletic Club members, Hunt said.

Jeb and Robyn Byers designed and welded the stand that encases the plaque donated by Raymond O'Haver at Action Trophy.
