The Payson Men's Golf Association hosted Beaver Creek and Williams Elephant Rock in a low-gross and low-net by flights tournament June 9 at Payson Golf Course. In the competition, the homestanding PMGA dominated the visitors winning four of five closest-to-the-pin competitions and all but two flight titles.
In the low-gross battles, the winners included Rick Korth (first flight; 68), Bud Drummond (second; 81), Len Niedenis (third; 89) and Bob Hendrie (fourth; 98).
In the low-net scoring for first flight participants, John Pauley (64) was first and Frank Szakal (66) second.
Beaver Creek's Vince Lanski took the low-net crown in the second flight with a 68. Syd Gee carded a s 69 to finish second.
John Calderwood outdueled Beaver Creek's Vern Shaw for the low net title in the third flight. Calderwood finished at 66. Shaw tallied a 70.
In the fourth flight, Don Gyde was first (68) and Dave Lynn (71) second.
Among the closest-to-the-pin money winners, Beaver Creek's Jorge Lopez swatted to within 14 feet 2 inches on No. 5.
PMGA winners included Armand Werle (No. 2; 3 feet, 3 inches), Dick Harding (No. 14; 4 feet, 2 inches), Gary Vaplon (No. 17; 1 foot) and Calderwood (No. 8; 3 feet, 9 inches).
