Summer recreation center
Youth who have completed fourth through 10th grades are invited to attend the recreation center at Rim Country Middle School. The center offers basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, billiards, and a variety of other activities. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday, June 14-July 16. Program is free.
Concert Under the Stars
Bring your lawn chair and picnic baskets and enjoy live entertainment for free. A variety of musical entertainment will entice people of all ages. This Saturday, enjoy the blues stylings of Common Ground Blues, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Green Valley Park amphitheater.
July 4th, fireworks and family fun day
This year's event will feature a larger fireworks show and more entertainment. The family fun will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Green Valley Park amphitheater. There will be games, gunnysack races, tug-o-war, and other activities for all ages. Bring a picnic basket and blanket, or grab some food from one of the vendors that will be on hand, so you can sit back after a day of fun and enjoy live family entertainment by Young Country from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. A grand patriotic traditional fireworks display over Green Valley Lake will follow to live music from the 108th Army National Band. This is a free event. Shuttles will be provided from Rumsey Park to Green Valley Park.
Scrapbooking for Kids
This class will teach kids (ages 8-14) simple and quick scrapbooking ideas. Participants will actually complete a scrapbook, using techniques that are fun, creative, and easy. Supplies for completing a scrapbook are included in the cost of this class (included is: one 8 1/2 x 11 album, photo splits, paper, black zig pen, stickers & other miscellaneous items). Participants will need to bring their own pair of scissors and 12-15 photos to class. This class is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., June 15 to 18, in the Parks & Recreation office conference room. Cost is $30 per child (space is limited to the first ten children to sign up). Registration runs until full.
Crafty Kids
This class is for ages 3-12. Participants will create handmade crafts, including a souvenir. Each one-week class will be held in Ramada 1 in Rumsey Park, Monday-Friday. Registration is $25 per session at the Parks & Recreation office. Each session is limited to 10 participants. Registration is ongoing until full. Session II (June 21-25), 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for ages 6-8 & 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for ages 9-12; Session III (July 5-9), 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for Mom & Tots (ages 3-5) & 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for ages 6-10.
Barrel and Pole Bending Series
Parks & Recreation will be sponsoring a Thursday night barrel and pole bending saddle series in June and July, beginning June 3. The books will open at 6 p.m. with competition starting at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per run. Awards will be presented July 29 and will be based on a point system. Drop-in tennis doubles
Stop by Rumsey Park tennis courts for drop-in doubles from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday nights in June, July, and August. There is no charge for this program, and adult players of all abilities are welcome.
Discover Scuba
This is a beginning scuba program for ages 10 and over. Class will be offered on the following Tuesdays: June 22, July 6, July 8, July 27, and Aug. 3. The cost is $15 per session. Each session is 90 minutes of instruction and begins at 6:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 8 participants. Registration will take place from May 10 until full.
Bubble Makers
This is a beginning scuba program for kids ages 8 and 9. The class shows youngsters how to breathe under water. This class will be offered Thursday, June 24. The cost is $15. Each session is 90 minutes of instruction and begins at 6:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 8 participants. Registration will take place from May 10 until full.
