Payson police are investigating what may be an attempted child molestation at Taylor Pool in Rumsey Park.
Two weeks ago, a woman reported that a man attempted to fondle her son in the pool restroom.
Since that time, pool staff and parents have been on watch for anyone suspicious, which has resulted in several calls to police and more allegations, some of them which proved to be unfounded.
"We continue to have incidents reported and we are trying to make our way through all of them," Payson Police Lt. Don Engler said. "Our problem is trying to sort through each allegation because we take all of them very seriously."
Several witnesses and possible suspects have been questioned in relation to the reported molestations, he said. Pool patrons are making daily calls to police to report suspicious swimmers.
"One case in particular that we are investigating is leading us towards a suspect," Engler said. "We are looking at a particular person."
Payson Police Det. Matt Van Camp said the description of the perpetrator given by the victim is a white male between the ages of 40 and 60.
"He is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs between 160 and 200 pounds," Van Camp said. "The victim said he wears swim trunks with the color blue in them and a shirt that has yellow in it. That's all we have at this time."
While officers are investigating every lead and responding to every call to the pool, they are encouraging the public to use discretion so they don't expend unnecessary time and resources.
In the meantime, police are encouraging parents or guardians to keep an eye on their children and encouraging anyone with information to call (928) 474-5177.
