Cap Exercise Combines Efforts With Area Agencies

In the Civil Air Patrol training exercise Saturday, 32 senior members and cadets from Payson, Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, and Show Low, along with nine guests from the Gila County Sheriff's Department and members of the Tonto Rim Search and Rescue Team, participated in a SAREX (Search and Rescue Exercise) for the Arizona Group II Squadrons.

Senior members and cadets from the Civil Air Patrol turned out Saturday for a day-long exercise that had them flying over the forest looking for fires, hikers who may be violating forest restrictions or searching for emergency locator transmitters. The training attracted crews from Payson, Show Low, Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona.

The exercise plans included reporting any fires in the forest area, reporting hikers and campers in restricted areas, searching for ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitters), and practicing proficiency in radio communications and flying.

The exercise mission included four aircraft, four ground team vehicles and one transport van.

CAP members and volunteers continue to invest their valuable time and effort to provide a higher level of training to build a strong CAP presence in times of disaster and also on a daily basis.
