The Citizens Awareness Group, also known as the Property Owners Awareness Group, disbanded several years ago, but some funds remained in its account.
The time had come to disperse those funds and close the accounts.
Four nonprofit groups were chosen to receive a share of the funds: PTCO, Strawberry's Elite, Time Out Shelter and Beta Sigma Phi. Wayne Severson, former president of the board, and Shirley Abel represented CAG. A check for $420.92 was given to each of the four groups.
PTCO is the Parent Teacher Community Organization for the Pine Strawberry School. The purpose is to provide the necessary support, financial and otherwise, to Pine Strawberry School for the enrichment of the education of our children and to establish lines of communication between the school's teachers, administrators, staff, parents and community members.
All parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, staff and administrators of students attending Pine Strawberry School are invited to belong to PTCO.
Strawberry's Elite is a nonprofit, fund-raising, volunteer organization which exists to provide for specific needs of children and the emergency needs of children, families and individuals of the Strawberry and Pine communities. Funds are provided for school lunches and many other needs channeled through the Pine-Strawberry School. Emergency needs are considered as referrals are received.
A variety of community dinners are the primary means of raising funds.
The Time Out Shelter in Payson provides interim housing, counseling and support groups for women and children who have been involved with domestic violence. Transitional housing is available for women and their children who are in the process of becoming independent.
The Time Out Thrift Store, located at 500 South Beeline in Payson, provides funding for the Time Out Shelter. Other fund-raising activities are held throughout the year.
Beta Sigma Phi is an international organization of women dedicated to benevolent, educational, fraternal and beneficial nonprofit purposes. The Zeta Zeta chapter of BSP, in conjunction with the area Kiwanis Club, provides Christmas stockings to Pine Strawberry children who would otherwise go without.
