There are hungry critters roaming the perimeter around the village, in particular the coyotes. I have spotted them running the Control Road and my new beagle doggie "Libby" has picked up their scent. We will not let her go chasing them, but my husband has tracked them to their bed down area, and he says that there are at least two of them. They seem to fear humans, although they will come close to the houses.
They have become a hazard to domesticated animals. They will call small dogs out and surround them. The residents need to be aware of the danger to the animals that are in the village and not let them roam too far away from home.
Last Chance Country Store
Ethel Cain from the Last Chance Country Store is home recovering from cataract surgery and she cannot bend over or lift anything over a few pounds for a few weeks. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
Danny's Quad Runners are starting to organize quad runs every Saturday now that the weather is good. If you would like to join Danny, be in front of the Double D by 9 a.m. The runs usually last until early afternoon. Be sure to bring water and a snack and maybe a good strong tow strap just in case there would be a need.
Tonto Village Chapel
The next monthly movie will be at 6 p.m., March 19. The title of the movie is "Left Behind II." There will be free drinks and popcorn, and as always there is no charge for the movie. Mark the date on your calendar, and go see this good movie.
The monthly potluck luncheon will be on Sunday, March 14 after church services and Bible study. The food should be ready about 12:45 p.m. This event is always a winner for everyone, the variety is almost endless, and the company is friendly. Please join them for an enjoyable afternoon.
Birthdays, etc. ...
There are many days to celebrate this coming week, in particular for my husband, that day is St. Patrick's Day. His middle name is Patrick and he is a first generation American/ Irishman, since his mother came over from Belfast in the early 1900s. He also has a sister who was born there when his mother went over for a visit. Naturally his favorite meal is corned beef and cabbage.
"Erin Go Braugh" to everyone!
Gary Martin of Tonto Village III and the best cabinet maker around will celebrate his birthday March 16.
Chuck Rutherford, of Tonto Village I, occasionally helps out as a handyman at the Double D Restaurant. He'll add another candle on his cake March 18.
June Milke of Tonto Village III has her big day March 20.
There are two people who do not live in the village but have birthdays next week, that I want to recognize them , because of their willingness to help out and their friendliness at National Bank. Jenny Wegner, who did live in Tonto Village for a few years, will be celebrating her birthday March 16. Neloa Beeler will be another year older March 17. Both of these gals have gone out of their way to be helpful.
Tonto Village Fire District
There will be a monthly meeting of the Fire Board at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 13 at the fire station. The meeting is open to the public and discussion is encouraged.
Ethel Cain has announced that a new shuffleboard has been added to the game room. If there is anyone out there who would like to see some tournament play with this new game, contact Ethel or Betty Koutz at (928) 478-4332.
