The Inaugural Duck Race in Christopher Creek takes place this Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Landmark. At $5 each, ducks will be sold Friday night and Saturday until 1:45 p.m. There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes. Everyone is invited to this charity event as the ducks race down from the run off from an up stream location to the finish line at the Landmark. Proceeds benefit the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department.

Easter

Easter is just around the corner. The Easter egg hunt is scheduled for 2 p.m., April 11 at the top of Hillcrest on Elk Run Road.

Prizes will be awarded for the most eggs and the cutest Easter bonnet, both boys and girls. Bring your own basket. There will be hunts for toddlers through age 5 and kids ages 6 through 12.

Following the hunt, there will be an adult Easter bonnet parade with prizes for the fanciest Easter bonnet worn by an adult male and an adult female. Call Gary Anderson at (928) 478-4075 or Karen Thorton at (928) 478-4133 to let them know you are coming. The night before the adults will be coloring some special eggs at Creekside for the hunt and there will be prizes for the best-looking egg.

Transfer Station

Residents of Christopher Creek and surrounding areas need to put this notice on their refrigerators. The Christopher Creek Transfer Station will be open only from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays due to the high cost of operations, effective April 4. To offer trash service in rural areas, the landfills have been subsidizing the five county transfer stations at $100,000 per year. As an enterprise fund of the county, the solid waste department does not receive any tax revenue; the disposal fees are the only income it generate. As with any business, they cannot support this long-term loss indefinitely.

In February, the Christopher Creek Transfer Station brought a $222 in revenue; the operation costs were almost 10 times that amount. The Gila County Public Works Division regrets the inconvenience this may cause. Any questions or concerns may be directed to Sharon Radanovich at (928) 425-3231 or (800) 304-4452 ext 8531.
