There comes a time in almost every town when there is a ‘defining moment' that tells of the character, caring, and concern of that community. When a city has an opportunity to speak for those that have little or no voice of their own, such as the sick, the elderly, the homeless, and the children.
Such a ‘defining moment' is about to occur for the Payson Unified School District (PUSD). In a little over a week, taxpayers of the PUSD will be able to decide if a small increase in their taxes will be approved in the override election to benefit the children, parents, and staff members of PUSD.
Failure to pass the PUSD override will result in an exodus of some of our brightest and most promising students and teachers to districts like Fountain Hills, Mesa, and Scottsdale, where school resources are more plentiful. The recently completed four-lane Beeline Highway can bring us prosperity, or it can take away some of our most precious resources.
I hope the ‘defining moment' is defined in a positive manner for the benefit of those that can't speak for themselves.
