Taylor Pool opened for business May 3 -- the earliest date in the 20-plus year history of the aquatic facility.
It will remain open weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. for adult lap swimming until May 29 when Taylor opens to a full schedule.
About 15 persons showed up on Monday which "was more than we expected," Parks and Recreation Director Bill Schwind said.
Parks and recreation officials decided to open the pool about a month earlier than in the past at the request of those who use Taylor.
"It's a great way to get an aerobics work out before going to work," Schwind said. "People can drop in any time during those hours and get their exercise."
A trio of lifeguards will be on duty each weekday Taylor is open.
The pool was heated to 82 degrees Monday morning and should remain about the same temperature the rest of the month.
"We began lifeguard training Monday and we have to heat the pool for that," Schwind said. "That was another reason we decided to open in the morning, it's not costing any extra money to heat it.
The fee is $40 which includes pool use throughout the summer months.
