Tour De Payson Offers 45-Mile Adventure


Manzanita Cyclery of Payson has joined forces with the Phoenix Metro Bicycle Club to host the Tour de Payson bike rally.

Starts will be between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at Rumsey Park. A sign-up for the event begins at 7 a.m. at the park.


Cyclists from throughout Arizona have been invited to participate in the Tour de Payson, a 45-mile rally set for 7 a.m. Saturday, May 8 at Rumsey Park.

The 45-mile tour route will include mountain bike trails and 4x4 roads on the outskirts of Payson and near Houston Mesa Road. The route will have hills and vary in elevation between 4,700 feet and 5,500 feet.

Organizers recommend bikes have triple chain rings and mountain gearing. The course has been described as both challenging and beautiful. Some shorter route options will be available.

Sag Support will be provided by Manzanita Cyclery and the Phoenix bicycle club. A lunch, including barbecued chicken, corn on the cob and side dishes will be served after the tour (about 11 a.m.) at the large ramada in Rumsey Park. There will also be drawings for cycle-related prizes during the lunch.

Today, registration is $20 at Manzanita Cyclery, 307 S. Highway 87, during regular store hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Race day registration is $25.
