Want a nice night out to enjoy the beauty of Green Valley Park? Then the board of directors of the Northern Gila County Historical Society has just the thing.
The society is hosting its annual fund-raiser Friday at the museum in the park. For the fourth year, the society is holding a wine, cheese, beer and brats fest to raise money to keep the museum operating.
"This is the first time we will have ‘celebrity' servers," said Jim Buettner, vice president of the museum board.
Organized by Vliet Hulse and Barbara Gustafson, the event starts at 5 p.m. at the Rim Country Museum in Green Valley Park.
"The money goes into our general fund," Gustafson said. "It buys materials for the book shop and other supplies, is used for maintenance costs and advertising."
There will be fine wines and a variety of cheeses to sample, plus choice beers, gourmet pretzels and brats from Charlie's Meats.
"And we'll have coffee for those who don't care for wine or beer," Gustafson said.
Entertainment will be provided by the Payson Senior Center band and the Zane Grey player piano, "Provided we have enough people to keep the player piano playing," Gustafson said.
In addition to all the taste treats, historical society members will have both a raffle and silent auction.
Among the auction items will be art, jewelry, wine and a handmade quilt, Gustafson said. The raffle will include gift certificates and collectible figurines.
Tickets are $15 each or $25 per couple. They are available at the Rim Country Museum and the Museum of Rim Country Archaeology. Tickets may also be bought from any board member or at the door.
Buettner said the board includes Tom McGuigan, president, Barbara Gustafson, recording secretary, Vliet Hulse, corresponding secretary, and board members Duane Atteberry, Jack Bonkowske, Anna Mae Deming, Pat Lundblad and Conrad Okerwall.
