Tonto National Forest began fire restrictions today, May 15 at 8 a.m.
The restrictions place limitations on campfires, charcoal fires, smoking, chain saw use, welding, operating machines without spark arresters and the discharge of firearms. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns, and heating devices are allowed within the areas where restrictions apply, and some developed campgrounds are also exempted from these restrictions.
There is a toll free number that you can call for more information: 877-864-6985. According to Chief Alliger, the fine for any of these violations can be up to $2000. He encourages all property owners to continue clearing the brush and pine needles away from your home. The district personnel will help you with any large limbs, etc, with the chipper/shredder. If you need this for your cleanup, please call the fire station at 928-478-4875.

There was a carnival atmosphere in the village on Friday, April 30 at Shelby School. There was a dunk tank, face painting, a cake walk and a rappelling contest along with many other feature attractions. According to one of the organizers of this event, Elizabeth Silver, the ‘study hall' group of students organized this fun day for all the students of the school, along with the full approval and financial support of school administrator Lane Kamp and the school principal Nicole Kamp. The students started way back in January and produced a fun day for everyone, including free pizza and free drinks.
