Habitat For Humanity 5k This Saturday

Grease the wheels of that baby stroller, accelerate your personal training, replace those tired shoe laces -- Payson Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (PAHH) will host its fourth annual 5K Walk/Run "Home Run" this Saturday, May 15 at Green Valley Park.

The registration fee is $20, which includes a commemorative T-shirt and a complimentary pancake breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Registrations will be accepted until just before 8 a.m. on race day. Follow the bright green signs from the Beeline Highway to the day-of-race registration booths located at a park ramada on the west side of Green Valley Parkway. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

Couples, families, individuals and even dogs take part in the popular 5K benefiting Payson Area Habitat for Humanity.

Parking for the race and related events will be available at Community Presbyterian Church, First Assembly of God Church and Julia Randall Elementary School.

The race officially starts at 8 a.m. on Green Valley Parkway just north of the Summit Street intersection.

The 3.1-mile course will wind west on Country Club Drive past the Payson Country Club and almost to the Northern Gila County sewer treatment facility. There, it will double back to Green Valley Park, cross over the dam, and wind its way to the finish line within the park.

Cash awards for the overall top three men and women racers (donated by Chapman Auto Center), as well as medals for the top three men and women in each age category will be presented at a ceremony to be held near the Veterans Memorial right after the race.

All racers are automatically entered in raffle drawings.

Non-racing family members and friends can join walk/run participants at breakfast. Adult tickets are $3; a child's plate is $1.

This is an event for the whole family, whether or not you are participating in the walk/run. There'll be games and activities for the kids, face painting, live music by "Trouble in Paradise" featuring Chuck and Barbara Casey, a PAHH informational booth (look for the "Stud Wall") plus much more.

The family activities combined with the 5K Walk/Run assure a great day of fun in the sun.

All walk/run and breakfast proceeds will benefit PAHH in its mission to provide decent, affordable and healthy houses to Payson area low- and moderate-income residents in need. Call 928-474-0330 for further information.
