Russell Bemler, 84, of Tonto Basin, died May 11, 2004. He was born Nov. 23, 1919 near Broadview, Mont., where his father and mother homesteaded.
He went east as a baby and lived in the New Jersey-New York area for many years, where he worked with the Kraft Food Company.
Mr. Bemler moved to Miami, Fla. in 1953, moving to Payson in 1975. He was on the Planning and Zoning Board for some time, and the City Council for eight years. He was the first mayor elected by the people of Payson.
In 1993, he moved to Tonto Basin.
He is survived by his daughter Carole (Jim) Creighton; grandson, Graham Buck; sister, Allene Reynolds of Maybrook, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews and their children. He is also survived by his very close companion of 22 years, Helen.
He has many close friends in Payson and Tonto Basin and will be greatly missed by all.
There will be private services and cremation. We love you so much.
