The Payson Raiders (8-0) nipped the Camp Verde Bulldogs 16-14 to remain unbeaten and atop the Central Arizona Youth Football Association Majors East division standings.
In the win Saturday on Longhorn field, the two longtime rivals battled to an 8-8 halftime tie. In the second half, both teams scored touchdowns, but the Raiders successful two-point conversion proved to be the winning margin.
The two touchdowns the Raider defense gave up to the Bulldogs were the most points allowed this season in a single game. In eight victories, the Raiders have chalked up five shutouts and have given up only 56 points all season. Last year, the team was 10-0 and league champions. In 2002, the Raiders compiled a 10-1 mark.
