One of the most prestigious accomplishments a Payson Women's Golf Association Nine Hole member can attain is to become a "Ringer Board" champion.
This year's gold medal winner Ardie Poole, was recognized by about 20 of her fellow Lady Niners at a season-ending awards ceremony held Nov. 4.
Poole said she was elated with the championship mostly because it represented a season-long accomplishment.
In the Ringer Board competition, each member's season-best score on all 18 holes at Payson Golf Course is posted.
At the end of the season, those personal bests are tabulated and the player with the best card is tagged the champ.
When the 2005 season starts, Ringer Board competition starts anew.
The Lady Niners' final tournament of the year, scheduled for Oct. 28, was canceled because of adverse weather conditions.
The members did gather at Crosswinds Restaurant to hear President Jane Patterson announce that Isabella Sockrider had claimed the Club Championship. In winning, Sockrider outdueled runner-up Joan Johnson and bronze medalist Julie Lynch.
At an "even holes only" formatted tournament Oct. 21, Norma Fallers and Johnson tied for first place. Sockrider finished second.
