Salvation Army Tradition Needs Volunteers

The Salvation Army Unit of Payson is seeking volunteers to participate in the Holiday Kettle Bell Ringing.

The unit will be asking for donations every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting the Friday after Thanksgiving. There will be a total of four stations, two each at both Wal-Mart and Safeway. The shifts are two hours, starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m.

The Salvation Army is looking for clubs, agencies and individuals to volunteer. Individuals needing court-ordered community service hours can receive credit if they volunteer. The unit also has the option to collect donations at Bashas' and Walgreens, but has not had enough volunteers in the past to do so.

All the money raised in Payson stays in Payson. The Salvation Army assists people in need with gas vouchers, utility disconnects, medication, transportation, bus fare, some rent assistance, food, lodging, and so on. This emergency assistance to families is limited, unless there are special circumstances. The unit also sends up to 10 children to Salvation Army Camp each summer, which costs $200 for each child. It pays a $20 co-pay for Vision USA eye examinations in March.

Local donations can be made at National Bank of Arizona, 254 East Highway 260, Payson.

To schedule a shift, please contact Jenny Wegner at (928) 970-0601, or Ray Kinsman at (928) 474-6577.
