During the 2003 cross country season, Jenny Cohen was Payson High School's finest cross country runner. She now runs for Scottsdale Community College.

At the National Junior College Athletic Association Region I championship meet Oct. 29 at the Pavilions Golf Course in Scottsdale, the PHS 2004 graduate ran to a seventh-place finish covering the 5K course in 18:29.

Her efforts helped Scottsdale nail down a fourth-place finish in the regional title battle.

With Cohen's finish, she qualified for the NJCAA championships Nov. 6 in El Paso, Texas.

There, she was 14th (19:28) among the 188 qualifiers.

By virtue of her top-25 showing in El Paso, Cohen was named a NJCAA Cross Country All-American.

Cohen's plans are to try out for the SCC track and field team in the spring and possibly transfer to Arizona State University next school year.

After graduation, she was recruited by Paradise Valley Community College which won the NJCAA region championship. She declined those offers saying she wanted to attend SCC because she believed the school had a better theater and drama academic program in which she is majoring.

In addition to being a standout athlete at PHS, Cohen was an honor roll student.
