Rent-A-Center opened its doors in September to help Rim country residents make their houses more homey.
"We're helping customers acquire merchandise they can't normally afford," said Ray Phillips, manager of the store, located at 213 Highway 260, Ponderosa Village Shopping Center.
"We make it possible for them to get what they need for their home and make small payments," he said.
Phillips said the Payson store is part of the country's largest rent-to-own operation. The company started with eight stores in 1986 and rapidly expanded over the next 16 years. Rent-A-Center now owns and operates more than 2,600 stores in 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The corporate headquarters is in Plano, Texas, as are the headquarters of its wholly owned subsidiary, ColorTyme, Inc.
Phillips said customers don't need to make a long-term commitment.
"If you can list four people in town who know you, we don't even require a down payment," he said.
Phillips said he and his four-member staff strive to be customer-friendly, they offer free delivery and set up, service and maintenance and offer a 90-days-same-as-cash policy.
"You can try it before you buy it," he said, adding the company makes convenient payment arrangements for its customers.
Customers may choose from top name-brand, quality merchandise such as Philips, Mitsubishi, Dell, Compaq, JVC, Sony, England, Ashley, Simmons and Whirlpool.
From a television for the family room to the sofa to sit on and watch it, Rent-A-Center provides an easy, affordable way for people to get the things they want for their home today, without incurring a continuing obligation or having to use their credit.
The Payson Rent-A-Center also handles some items exclusively, such as the Apple iPod, thermopedic mattresses and Hitachi high-definition televisions, Phillips said.
"There are never any hidden fees," Phillips said. "Our goal is to build loyal customers.
